By Ashley Elston
Evie Porter seemingly has it all, a loving boyfriend, a beautiful home, and a group of close-knit friends. Evie Porter though doesn't exist. Everything she portrays about herself came from the dossier her employer presented her. The mark is her doting boyfriend, Ryan Sumner. As Evie continues her assignment she is blindsided when her past and her true identity intersect with her current job.
First Lie Wins is the first adult novel written by Ashley Elston who has previously published six YA novels. This thriller has major Rachel Hawkins vibes but doesn't quite hit the mark with the level of writing. It was a clever plot line with major twists but there were too many flashbacks, aliases, and side characters. I listened to the audiobook version which may have helped, or hindered, that style of storytelling. Overall it was a good cat and mouse novel but you really need to pay attention or you'll lose the thread.
