Understanding the Many Aspects of Addiction and How it Affects the Human Brain with Dr. Charles Plummer (Senior College in the Community)

Addiction is, without question, a modern day epidemic that claims the lives of 500 people a day and costs the United States more than $800 billion a year in health care costs, crime, and loss of productivity, Dr. Charles W. Plummer believes that educating the general public about the many aspects of addiction and how if affects the human brain can play an important role in resolving many of the problems in society that addiction creates.  It is this belief that has motivated him to share with the general public the important discoveries that have been made in the science of addiction including that all types of addiction hijack the brain's natural reward systems.  Dr. Plummer will explain how use of drugs can lead to dependence and addiction, and will talk about behavioral addiction.

Dr. Plummer has a BS degree in Education, a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision, and a PhD in Religious Studies as well as Metaphysics.  He taught school in the Auburn School Department and served as principal for 23 years.  After retirement, he held several other positions as a parent educator.  Dr. Plummer also served in the United States Navy.

This program will take place in person, in the Androscoggin Community Room.  No registration is required.
