Program Description

Event Details

Read ME is a statewide summer reading program offered by the Maine Humanities Council and Maine State Library that gets Maine’s adults all reading the same books. Each year a well-known Maine author recommends two titles by lesser-known Maine authors with libraries and their patrons participating in a summer of reading and discussing the featured books.  The 2023 featured books—recommended by Colin Woodard -- are "Lungfish" by Meghan Gilliss and "Night of the Living Rez:  Stories" by Morgan Talty. The Maine Humanities Council is a statewide non-profit that uses books, poetry, and big ideas to bring people together to discuss issues of importance.  MHC programs and grants encourage critical thinking and conversations across social, economic, and cultural boundaries.

Maine Calling will again host the 2023 Program Kickoff on Maine Public Radio.  Once we have the date, we will post it here.

The Auburn Public Library will be reading and discussing both titles this summer, starting with "Lungfish".  Registration is required and may be done so by completing the form below or by calling the Reference Desk.  This book will be available for those who have registered and may be picked up at the Reference Desk on or after June 8.

The book discussion will be held in person on Thursday, July 6, at 4:00 p.m. in the Conference Room located on the ground floor.
