Event Details
Poetry and painting collide in this session which honors National Poetry Month. Explore the ancient Japanese short poem form, haiku, with children's department staff. Children will play with the unique poetic structure by writing a couple haikus as a group, and then create their own. Traditional haiku themes often focus on nature and opposing imagery. We'll watch a short video about the poet, Matsuo Bashō, and look at artwork inspired by him. Next, we'll listen to music from the Edo period while we try Japanese ink painting—sumi-e. This program is best for children ages 7–12 and their caregivers. Supplies are limited, please register.
